It is the UK’s premier athletics club and has been represented at every Summer Olympics bar one since 1908. The club also has access to the High-Performance Centre, an indoor facility which provides indoor training for a range of events including long jump, triple jump, high jump, shot putt, and pole vault.
As well as welcoming recreational runners, they cater for all levels of experience up to Olympic athletes.They have coached an impressive number of Olympic athletes, including Denise Lewis (the gold medal in the heptathlon at the 2000 Sydney Olympics), Mark Lewis-Francis (the gold medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics, as part of 4 x 100 metres relay team), Katharine Merry (the bronze medal in the 400 metres at the 2000 Sydney Olympics), Mickey Bushell (the gold medal in the 100 metres at the 2012 London Paralympics).

In 2017 they launched Search for a Star, the campaign aimed at 9-16 year olds, which hopes to identify the next Olympic medalists. Winners will be decided at an athletics evening to be held at the Birmingham Alexander Stadium on Wednesday 21st June.
