Blackburn Harriers & Athletic Club was founded in 1910 and affiliated to the Northern Counties Athletic Association in 1913. Their home is Witton Park Athletics Track and Witton Park Arena in Blackburn, Lancashire.The joint men’s and women’s senior team now compete in the Northern League Division 1 and from 2008 to 2010 were Division 1 Champions as well as 2009 Northern League Cup Champions – memorable achievements for the club. Their junior teams have campaigned since the 1980’s in the National Young Athletes League developing many fine athletes. In 2012, Holly Bleasdale & Sophie Hitchon made the GB team for the Olympic Games in London both reaching the Olympic final as well as being the current national champions and record holders at pole vault and hammer. The last medal for Great Britain in the London Olympics was a silver won by Blackburn Harrier’s Samantha Murray in the modern pentathlon who went on to win the World Modern Pentathlon Championships in 2014. The club competes in many junior, senior, national and international competitions, as well as in competitions for people with disabilities.

The George Kirby Stand has been named after the president of Blackburn Harriers Athletics Club, and it was the final addition to major £3 million development work in Witton Park.

Coaching takes place at Witton Park, Tuesdays and Thursdays 6.00pm – 7.30pm for sprints, middle distance/endurance, throws, high jump, long and triple jump and Sunday 11.00am and Wednesdays at 6:00pm for hurdles.
Blackburn Harriers are proud to have attained Clubmark accredited status. Clubmark is the Sports England cross-sport quality accreditation scheme for clubs with junior sections. Clubmark is only awarded to proven high-quality clubs. The national scheme has been in place since 2002 and is now the stamp of approval to which all sports clubs with junior sections aspire.
